Debadrita Sarkar: A Young Writer from a Small Town Reaching The World

Born on 20th November 2008, into a middle-class family, Debadrita found her passion for writing at the age of twelve. Though born in Kolkata, she was raised in a small town, "Haripal," in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. 

She loved the tradition of poetry more than any other form of literature. 

At fourteen, she suffered heavily from mental illness, and then she found writing, not only a form of literature but also a way of healing for her. She took her literary career seriously after realizing this. 

Her publishing journey started at fifteen, and at sixteen, she started writing books. 

Now, Debadrita Sarkar is an author, co-author, bilingual writer, bilingual poet, essayist, compiler, blogger, podcaster, self-illustrator, editor, record holder, and advocate for the environment, self-compassion, and human rights. 

As an author, she has written multiple chapbooks and three books. She has written a total of four chapbooks: "Nature And Life - A Chapbook," "Metamorphosis Through Living: A Microchap of Poems," "Short Poems for Everyday Life," and "Loved, But Undone: A Chapbook of Ten Poems of Love" (editions 1 and 2). These chapbooks are published and distributed by an e-book platform, "Bookrix" (situated in Germany), and so listed in different platforms internationally, like Amazon Kindle, Google Play Books, Kobo Reads, BookBeat, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, etc. 

She has also written two chapbook series: "Selected Poems of Solitary Thoughts" (Volumes 1 and 2 are published), where she republished the poems of hers published in different periodicals, and "Quotes Books Series," where she had written exceptional motivational quotes (published in Google Play Books). These books are sold out worldwide and on all five continents.

She has written and published about three books. "In Search of the Cure," "Becoming A Para Athlete," and "A Poetic Heart: Poems On Self Compassion." 

The two fiction books, "IN SEARCH OF THE CURE" and "BECOMING A PARA ATHLETE," are published and available in the Bribooks store globally. In "IN SEARCH OF THE CURE" 

She had advocated for the disease "arsenicosis" caused by "arsenic" pollution through a short story, and the book got listed in SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) under the climate action category. Her second book, "Becoming a Para Athlete," is written for the advocacy of specially abled children's rights through a story of an imagined specially abled girl's journey to become a para athlete. 

Her debut poetry book, "A Poetic Heart: Poems On Self-Compassion," is published by a hybrid publisher of India, "Writer's Pocket," where she has advocated for self-compassion among people. 

Her poetry book has been nominated and selected for the Legacy Of Literature Award 2026 by The Literature Times and the Sahitya Sparsh Awards 2026 by Literatureslight Publishing. 

She has also been listed as an author on Google, All Author Directory, Wikimedia Commons, and the Chill Subs platform and among the 22 young authors of India by Himalayan Writing Retreat. Currently she has finished and signed a contract with a traditional publisher, Ukiyoto Publishing, for her upcoming book "As Her Roots Were Cut: Poetry for Saving the World" and is writing a new book on the great epic Ramayana. 

As a bilingual writer and poet, she has been published globally in English and around her state in Bengali (her mother tongue). She has been published in about 32 periodicals and newspapers, around the USA, UK, India, Chile, Croatia, and Netherlands. Among them, her writings are published in the renowned publications The Statesman, The Hindu, The Children's World Magazine by Children's Books Trust, International Times IT, etc. 

Her Bengali short story and poems are published in the anthologies of Ramdhanu publication, Kalatan Sahitya Patrika by TS Creation, and Lipika Sahitya Patrika (upcoming). 

She has been published in many platforms too, like Storyweaver, Wattpad, Pratilipi, Inkiit, Writco, Booksomia, Dailyhunt, Robinage, Pothi books, Pencil, Lulu, Medium, Internetpoems, Storymirror, All Poetry, Substack, Stories By Children, Youth Ki Awaaaz, Booksie, Spillwords Poem Hunter, etc. 

She was the literary lieutenant of the Storymirror literary army and selected as the nominee of the author of the week of Storymirror.

She has been awarded the Editor's Choice award by the Monomousumi Creative Writing competition for her poetry and later qualified for the two levels by scoring first and third for poetry and short stories in the Creative Writing Olympiad by Monomousumi and achieved two certificates signed by the famous author Chetan Bhagat along with medals and trophies. 

She has also been awarded three awards in three different competitions by the National Education and Human Research Development Organization (NEHRDO) and India's Got Diamond Award 2023 by the National Academy of Arts and Education (NAAE). For her poetry and achievements in literature, she has been awarded the Indian Literature Award 2026 by the Indian Literature And Awards Society (under the Veyli Foundation) and the International Excellence Award 2026 Season - 04 by Exceller Books and was selected for the Global Recognition Award 2026 from the 15,000 submissions. 

As a co-author, she has participated in more than ten anthologies by more than five publishers—Everlasting Publication, Poetic Essence Publication, Book Gossips Publication, The Blue Star Publication, Scratch Book Publications, Radharani Publications, etc. 

As an essayist, her essays are published in Medium publications, Booksomia, The Hindu, Dailyhunt, Youth Ki Awaaz, etc. platforms, and some of the anthologies. 

She has also maintained and curated three blogs on Blogger and WordPress: "Finding Her Voice" to reunite the voices against the environmental degradation, "The Human Rights Blog" for advocating human rights, and "Unknown Tales of Indian History" to script the unknown stories and names of Indian history. Here she does blogging and self-publishes her articles globally. 

She has compiled three national anthologies too, "History Is The Best Mystery" published under a former publication, Deepmisti Publication.

"The Little Thoughts Of My Heart" was published under JEC Publication, and lastly, "Earth Is Our Only Home" was compiled and published under Everlasting Publication on the occasion of World Earth Day 2026.

She has also started a podcasting channel on Spotify named "India—From Past to Present." 

where she is retelling every incident—the history of the formation of India, about the Indian kings, freedom fighters, etc. 

As a self-illustrator, she has written and illustrated two picture books: "Seasons," published on Storyweaver, and "Just Write Down!" published on Google Play Books. 

She has founded and edited an online magazine, "The Bharat Patriotism Magazine." The first issue is out on Google Play Books, ISSUU, FlipHTML5, and Heyzine. The magazine is also listed on Chill Subs.

She held a record under the India Book of Records as an IBR Achiever for writings published in maximum periodicals within a year by a teenager. She was published in 20 national and international periodicals within a year from 29th September 2024 to 25th September 2025. 

She writes different types of writing forms (i.e., short stories, essays, and poems) and gained fame in all the forms but exceptionally in poetry. She wrote and practiced different poetry forms too (free verse, haikus, etc.), but she is mainly famous for her free verse poems. 

Except writing, 

She has also curated and founded a campaign-running platform called "Abhiyanam—For Everyone." The first campaign, #Lettertonature, is successfully completed, and the letters are compiled in an e-book, which was launched on Google Play Books, Publuu, the website, Fliphtml5, and Issuu on 22nd April 2026 on the occasion of Earth Day 2026.

For her advocacy, she has also been nominated for the Children's Peace Prize 2026 by the Kids Right Foundation.

For her contributions in literature and writing books, she has been interviewed by Sorry! Zine, Author's Wiki, Indieview, Writer's Fun Blog by Beth Barany, and Lisa Haselton Blogs by Lisa Haselton and was a speaker in the Authors And Creators Summit 2026 by Exceller Books. 

She is a teen who is changing the world.
